Meet the CFHWM Team
Dr. Martin Yee is CFHWM's Medical Director and facilitates the medical monitoring of the Low Calorie and Very Low Calorie diet program participants. He has over ten years experience working in clinical weight loss and research. He is a past Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine at O'Connor Hospital in San Jose, CA where he runs his internal medicine practice. He also serves as Medical Director for Apple Inc.'s on-site Preventive Care Program. Dr. Yee became interested in preventive medicine at the Stanford Prevention Research Center where he conducted physical activity research. Dr. Yee received his M.D. from University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio. To complement his medical education he completed a Master of Science in Exercise Science from the University of California Davis. Dr. Yee understands the benefits of regular exercise and a healthy diet and practices the behaviors he suggests to his patients. He is committed to battling the obesity epidemic by promoting healthy weight loss built on sound, evidence-based methods that fit practically into peoples' lives. His favorite part of the job is being able to take patients off of medications as a result of the health benefits of significant weight loss.
Teresa A. Meuting, FNP/MSN, Nurse Pracitioner Teresa is our most recent addition to CFHWM. She assists Dr. Yee in the medical supervision component of the program. Teresa has been an RN for 24 years and has worked in a variety of critical care settings. In May of 2000 she graduated from Samuel Merritt College with a Master's Degree of Science and completed her Family Nurse Practitioner certification. While completing her master's degree she became interested in obesity in children and completed a Directed Senthesis in Pediatric Obesity in Mexican-American female children. Teresa has seen first hand the devastating end results of obesity. Struggling with her weight herself, she understands the complex issues surrounding obesity and the lifestyle changes necessary to maintain a healthy weight.
Diane Harris, Program Manager/Medical Assistant Diane Harris is the Director of Operations for CFHWM, and has worked with Dr. Yee since 1999. Diane has been in the medical field since 1998 and, prior to that, came from a management position in the corporate world. Like our other clinicians, Diane leads an active, healthy lifestyle. Diane's favorite part of her clinic work is developing strong bonds with the patients through the one-on-one care she provides. She likes interacting with patients on a very genuine, personal level, helping them to achieve positive changes in their lives. Diane works hard at managing her weight after having a baby in late 2005. She, like the rest of the CFHWM team uses HMR meals, fruits and vegetables, and physical activity to stay healthy.
Gavin Harris, Behavioral Health Educator Gavin Harris is a behavioral health educator and contributes to our marketing efforts as well. He joined the CFHWM team in 2001 coming from a position as a corporate trainer. Gavin works full time as a logistics manager with Old Navy and is a full time coach with the CFHWM. Gavin has a background in curriculum development and education, and is also certified as a behavioral health educator with HMR®. In 2001 Gavin lost 45 pounds with the help of the program and has been keeping it off by using HMR® meals, fruits and veggies, and physical activity. Gavin's strengths are in working with patients to help them improve their health, lose weight, reduce medications and have more energy. In his own words, "It is a very humbling and powerful experience to participate in helping an individual improve their life by way of behavior changes that are realistic and sustainable. My reward is their success."
Ann Mylod, Behavioral Health Educator Ann began working with CFHWM in 2001. She is a registered dietitian with a background in heart health. She earned her Master degree from San Jose State University in 1988. Ann finds working with CFHWM patients very rewarding. She thoroughly enjoys coaching them, learning from them, and watching them achieve their health goals. She appreciates the support the patients give each other, and finds that they motivate her to continue working on her own health habits. Her favorite part of her job is working with her maintenance clients in the classroom.
Kendra Chun, Program Coordinator Kendra joined the team in August of 2007. She has a background in business, hoping to bring added value to marketing efforts. She works part time, so she can spend time at home with her two young daughters. She recently lost 40 pounds and brings valuable first-hand experience of diet and lifestyle change. She has bonded well with the clients because she understands the challenges inherent in weight loss. One of her favorite things about the program is to see a difference in how clients look, act, and feel after completing their goals. She enjoys going to work knowing she is helping to make a postive change in someone's life.
Valerie Nguyen, Medical Assistant Valerie is currently attending school to become an LVN and will be graduating May 2008. She plans to continue her education and go on to become an RN. She has been working at CFHWM since the beginning of October 2007. Seeing the clients successes has motivated her to start living a healthier lifestyle by eating better & exercising more. She has incorporated HMR meal replacements into her diet & is excited about seeing the progress she is making. She hopes to encourage & support others in the program to reach their goals.
