Q: |
I have diabetes. Can I participate in this program? |
A: |
Yes you can! We have helped several diabetic patients lose weight. The program option that would be best for you is a medically supervised plan. Not only can people with diabetes lose weight safely with this option, we can often discontinue diabetes medications as the weight comes down

Q: |
I am concerned about regaining my weight. What is the long-term success of your program? |
A: |
Our most successful weight loss patients usually become our most successful Maintenance patients. We have found that trying to keep weight off, without any sort of support, coaching or guidance, is very difficult. In an effort to continue our patient care beyond the weight loss phase, we offer a Maintenance program where our patients can continue to receive education, coaching, support, and accountability. As a matter of fact, HMR national data from the last 1000 maintenance patients from 28 HMR programs showed that 74.1% were keeping off an average of 58 pounds at an average of 2.5 years after their initial survey. That's 23% of their initial body weight being kept off. What's more, from that same study of 1000 Maintenance patients, total cholesterol levels, triglycerides, and blood pressure were all down as well. HMR is about health, not just weight loss.

Q: |
I have few medical problems apart from my weight. Is your program right for me? |
A: |
Yes, it is! We would likely recommend an in clinic, medically supervised option. Significant weight loss is often beneficial for chronic medical conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, and hypercholesterolemia. Patients that complete the program are often able to reduce or even discontinue medications used to treat these conditions.

Q: |
How is maintenance different from weight loss? |
A: |
In Maintenance, our focus is on using the skills and behaviors we teach in weight loss to mitigate the calories our culture throws at us every day. We no longer ask our patients to eat our diet foods exclusively, but rather help them to continue to learn how to strategically use our meal replacements, veggies and fruits and physical activity to manage their weight.

Q: |
Is this diet appropriate if I am pregnant or breast-feeding? |
A: |
No. During these times you have special dietary needs. Check with your physician or dietitian for healthy diet recommendations.
